Illinois Center for
Broadcasting: Chicago Office
Build-Out
Client: Illinois Center for Broadcasting, Chicago (State Street)
Project: Interior Office Build-Out for the Chicago Campus
Design Features
- The State Street campus was one of three locations TKA designed for ICB in Illinois
- Achieve a fun, youthful, and eye-catching education/office space, as a flagship for the Chicago region
- Attract students interested in a forward thinking school and a high-visibility industry
Challenges
- Create an appealing space to the young population that inhabits the neighborhood, while keeping the project within budget
- Incorporate all program requirements in a small footprint, while designing educational spaces (classrooms, radio, and television studios) that are visible from the street
Key Achievements
- Use of vibrant colors: TKA highlighted the space with accents of cayenne and dark gray paints, plus melon-color acoustical wall covering for Internet and radio studios
- Use of natural light: TKA's design plan featured the existing high windows with ceiling soffits to allow for natural light into each individual space, while keeping ceilings at appropriate heights for each room
- Interactive spaces from the street: TKA planned the interior to create a television studio and sound studios visible and interactive from the street; TV monitors and speakers were installed along the unobstructed window lines to connect the inside students live with the people passing by on the sidewalk
