Chicago, IL (11/15/07) – TKA + Partners, an architecture
firm specializing in corporate, commercial and residential design, recently
announced that it served as the architectural designer of the building
team for the Greenbuild 2007 ‘Legacy Project,’ – a
renovation and expansion of the Chicago Center for Green Technology.
Greenbuild is a program
of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the nation's leading coalition
of corporations, builders, universities, federal and local agencies,
and nonprofit organizations working together to promote buildings that
are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live
and work.
The USGBC’s Greenbuild
International Conference and Expo, the premiere green building conference
in the world, was held on November 7-9, 2007 at McCormick
Place and concluded the 18 week ‘Legacy
Project.’
TKA + Partners was chosen,
through a public request for proposal, to expand the Chicago
Center for Green
Technology. The Chicago
Center for Green
Technology was the first municipal building rehab to receive the LEED
Platinum Rating. The Legacy Project involves a training and resource
center expansion of 2,560 square feet and an office renovation of 910
square feet.
The project was conceived
to serve as a living museum of a LEED-Platinum Commercial Interiors
Certified project, which would act as a training facility in addition
to a resource center for the public. The project incorporates certified,
recycled, reused, regenerative and low-emitting materials in both its
finish and construction.
“The Legacy Project
is really a living laboratory that demonstrates sustainable design principles
and proves responsible design is more than just being “green,”
said Thomas Kapusta, Principal and Founder of TKA + Partners. “In
addition to providing new alternative materials and new energy efficient
lighting, we also managed to creatively reuse and recycle materials
from the existing space in an effort to responsibly manage the budget.”
